Global TimePiece provides a quick and easy method to display
World Time - the date
and time of 1650 cities around the world, by country, compared
to the user's PC clock. The user's location is selected from a
database of 1400 cities, representing all time zones and
fractional time zones - all other functions are computed, and the
daylight saving time is automatically updated for each city and country
throughout the year. World time varies during the year due to
changes in daylight saving times (summer times). The majority of
countries and cities do not observe DST. In some countries, there
are periodic governmental changes of the dates that daylight saving time
is observed. Some countries change the dates yearly, eg. Israel.
Some states and cities may observe DST different than their country, eg.
Arizona, USA, Alice Springs, Australia. Beginning and ending
daylight saving time dates were obtained from the US Department of
Transportation, Official Airline Guide, personal communications and
numerous internet sites. Some of the DST dates are undoubtedly
inaccurate, and will be corrected as they are acquired. International time and
zones are political and do not necessarily comply with 15 degree
geographic zones; therefore, global time is divided into irregular
zones, often for convenience of neighboring cities, states and
countries, eg. Kiribati. This world time program utilized 24 zones beginning with
zone 1 east of the International Date Line and ending with zone 24 at
the IDL, instead of +12 and -12 zones from GMT.
